I learnt how to multiply fractions because I didn't know how to do it before but now I do.
I found multiply fractions was hard because when I got one right, I would get one wrong after that and it was frustrating.




Two surf shops in the same part of town sell similar products, but their prices vary. At sale time, both shops are competing for the same customers.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

• The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
• The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
• The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
• There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
• Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.

Parliament

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

• That Patsy Reddy is the Governor-general
• That Andrew Little is the leader of the opposition
• John Key has been kicked out of parliament by the speaker

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Koru games reflection 2016

The activity I did was Volleyball.

A highlight from Koru games was being able to play volleyball for three days because I don't play volleyball out of school.
Another highlight from Koru games was the food shops there because after our games we could get lunch and that would give us energy for the rest of the day.

I am proud of how much effort our team put into playing because even if we had clearly won or clearly lost we still put lots of effort into our last set.

Some advice I would give to next years year 7's would be to just go out there have fun, try hard and play fair.

In this unit I have been learning about:

In this unit, I found challenging some of the activities we did.

Something new I learnt was what different parts of speech were eg. a collective noun is a group of specific items, animal or people.

Water Cycle is a process that water goes through between land, sea and atmosphere. The water is recycled around, you don’t get new water. The water changes state throughout the process into gas, solid, liquid and can change back. The steps of the water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff-groundwater.

Evaporation is when the sun heats up the water in oceans, lakes, rivers and streams, into a gas. When the water vapor is in the air it is called humidity. Water evaporates more when it’s hot, that’s why it’s more humored in hot places. Evaporation is an invisible process. After the water turns into a gas it goes into the atmosphere, it forms clouds which is condensation.

Condensation is the gas and dust forming the clouds. Precipitation is when it gets cold by the clouds and it starts to rain, sleet, hail or snow. Condensation happens because of the temperature changing. The air is full of water, but you don’t see it unless it rains,sleets,hails or snows. The warmer the air is the more water vapor there is and if the air is colder there will be less water vapor. After the clouds form and precipitation happens the water runs off.

Runoff is when the water goes into lakes, rivers etc from the mountains or other places. The water can also sink into the ground which is called groundwater. If you pour water onto the ground it will sink in. Groundwater serves many purposes in nature: keeping plants alive, keeping your grass green; it serves lots of purposes to people as we use water for cooking, drinking, washing dishes and more. The water underground moves due to gravity.

These are the steps of the water cycle. Evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff-groundwater. The water cycle also known as hydrologic cycle and is an endless process,  there is no start and no end. The water cycle is happening all around us all the time and is an essential part of life.

CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress/ I am doing ok/ I feel I could do much better.

I am doing ok with my CARE because I am getting closer to getting my bronze but I need to remember to put my ticks in after I have got them, but I think that I have put most of my ticks in so far this year, which is good.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE/SILVER?

I am a little way away from getting my bronze award because I have got a few more ticks to get for my community and respect award. Then I have quite a few ticks to get my active thinking and excellence.

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E because I'm far away from getting my excellence award and I could try harder at things.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to try hard in things and just show all the CARE values.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is put my ticks up the day that I get the tick/s because then I won't forget.

We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Problem 1) 9 by 4 because 9+9+4+4=26 which is the smallest perimeter in a rectangle.

Problem 2) 8 by 6 because 8+8+6+=28 which is the smallest perimeter in a rectangle.
Problem 3) 3 bags because 30 times 20=600 meters squared and each bag has 200 meters squared in it.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was playing the games because I learnt about drama and got to play games.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning was playing what are you doing because it was fun.

My favourite improvisation game was doorbell because it was fun to watch people act as a character.

My next step/ something I need to work on further  in improvisation is to think faster because I didn't think very quick.

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning quite easy because once I knew what an adverbial clause it was easy to get the activities done.

In this activity (link to adverbial clause activity), I had to find which part of the sentence was the adverbial clause.

Student Led Conference Reflection

The things I enjoyed most about my SLC were sharing my writing asttle because I got good scores in my writing test.

What went well and why? Explaining what the asttle scores meant because I said how many numbers had to be next to the goal to sign it off on national standard and that you have to get a certain overall score to sign anything off.

What were the challenges you faced when preparing and presenting your SLC? I was challenged by when I was putting my SLC slide together by trying to find all the things I needed to link.

What changes would you make for next time and why? Write some side notes

Leadership

W.A.L.T describe the traits of an effective leader

I am at multi-structural. I can describe the traits of an effective leader.

Over the past week we have been learning about traits of an effective leader. Our class came up with six traits:

Integrity, Goal focused, Trustworthy, Active Thinker, Resilient, Motivational.

Here is an activity we did about Sir Ed Hillary. What we had to do was write what traits Sir Ed Hillary used and write why.

Next Step is to get to relational. I can compare and contrast the traits of different leaders.
